Concert ~ Majical Mystery

Annette Jude, Inger Dawson, Susie Turner & Jessie Mai
Our concert on 16th July was entitled 'A Musical Mystery.' Annette, Inger, Susie & Jessie entertained a full house. The eneving was in aid of The Lymphome Assiciation, Musical Keys & Church Funds .
Carol SInging - Thorpe End - 22 December 2010
For the second year running a group of carol singers set out in the snow from St David's Church to sing their way through Thorpe End. This carol singing event has become a regular event in the parish diary. The group ended up at the home of Nigel & Jackie Lodge where they had a warm welcome.
Nigel & Jackie greeted then with Mulled Wine, Mince Pies & Roasted Chestnuts. They were then joined by Nigel & Jackie's friends & neighbours for carol singing in their garage and garden. Heaters were on and everyone was in good voice.
The event was again in aid of the St Martin's Housing Trust with a total of £295.10 being raised. A big thank you goes to Nigel, Jackie for their hospitality and to all who took part in or supported the event.

Carol Service at Witton 12 December 2010



The Carol Service at St Margaret's Church, Witton started our Christmas celebrations in the Parish. A warm wlcome was assured as the church has recently enhanced it's heating system. The church looked magnificant bathed in the candle-light of 333 candles. The visiting choir Sine Nomine sang festive items and lead the singing of traditional carols. At the end of this now annual event mulled wine and minced pies were enjoyed by all.
Encore Concert ~ Thorpe End

Encore presented 'A Feast of Seasonal Delights' at St David's Church, Thorpe End on Saturday 4th December 2010. The varied programme was a joy to listen to with something for all tastes.
The programme ranged from the classics of Ave Verum Corpus to modern music from Harry Potter, from John Rutter arrangements such as 'For the Beauty of the Earth' to musicals of 'The King and I' & 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.'
Folloing refreshments during the interval, the seconad half turned brought a seasonal theme. From carols to a medley from Holiday Inn.
Musical directot Katie Vaughan, Accompaniest Vaughan Brooks and Encore were thanked by the Rev'd Chris Garrod.

Social Evening ~ Little Plumstead
Fund raising for the extension to Little Plumstead Church continues. On 20th November 2010 the Fundraising Committee organised a social evening in Little Plumstead Village Hall. Entertainment was provided by 'Freddie,' an excellent singer. The buffet supper was excellent and and provided by the church ladies. The event was well supported by villagers and those from further afield. Over £500 was raised for the building fund.


Charity Christmas Card Sale ~ Sewing Crafy & Art Exhibition
It was a very busy day on 13th November for the combined Charity Christmas Card Sale ~Sewing, Art & Craft Exhibition. The event was held at St David's Church, Thorpe End. Refreshments and light lunches were made by parishioners and there was also a raffle and quiz. Eight charities took part selling Christmas cards for their funds.

Mens Group - The Blickling Diggers
The Men's Group went back in time at their meeting this month. They were visited by a maid & housekeeper from Blickling hall from days gone by. Tales were told of the life and happenings in the house. Bunty & Liz came in costume to show the work of the Blickling Diggers.
The Diggers are a group of volunteers at Blickiling hall who bring the past to life in rooms in the hall or in the gardens.
They came with Bob Scott who shew a video and photographs of the group in action. If you are looking for an interesting visit to Blickling then choose a day when the Diggers are in action. They call themselves the Diggers because they dig-up the past.

Men's Group ~ Wood Turning
You can tell that Michael King loves woodturning. He gave a demonstration to the Men's Group and brought along examples of his work in variouis woods. The members of the group were invited to 'have a go' which several did. At the end of the evening Michael gave everyone a key ring with part turned from wood as a gift. A big thank you to Michael for a very interesting evening.
In April the group were given a very interesting talk by Gerald Jarvis on his time as a River Inspector. This was accompanied by slides taken on the rivers and broads.
On 19th June the Mens Group be taking a Midsummer Walk organised by Ray Walpole. They will leave St David's Church Car Park at 6.45 pm and finish at the Griffin Public House, in Yarmouth Road, Thorpe St Andrew.

'Wings of Song' concert at St David's

The concert by 'Wings of Song' at St David's Church, Thorpe End, was a great success. The church was full with no spare seats for this popular event. Under the direction of Audrey Yates with accompanist Annette Jude, the programme was varied but finished with the theme of Christmas. This was the final concert in this year's series at St David's. Alas it was also the last performance of Wings of Song who have given so much enjoyment to so many people in the last 20 years.
The concert raised funds for the Lymphoma Association with whom Wings of Song have strong links, and also for the church.
The 2010 series of concerts start on Saturday 6th March with the Norwich Singers.

St David's Men' Club - RAF Neatishead Museum Visit
The Men's Club evening on 16th November was a visit to the Air Defence Radar Museum at RAF Neatishead near Horning. The evening started with a talk followed by a guided tour. The museum had been was opened especially for the groups visit.
